Wait for the Apple fanboys is over. Apple has just unveiled the all new iPhone SE on Tuesday in California. Apple is calling it the cheapest iPhone model to date. The phone comes in 2 variants – 16GB model and 64GB model. iPhone SE starts from $399 in the US while it’s price in India is expected to be around 39k – 40k INR for the 16GB variant. The design of iPhone SE is the same as the iPhone 5S, however, it’s claimed to be the most powerful 4-inch phone ever. The smartphone is packed with an Apple A9 chip (same as used in iPhone 6S). It comes with the updated and recently launched iOS 9.3. You can also record and edit 4K videos on iPhone SE. The phone will be available in 4 colours – Silver, Gold, Space Gray and Rose Gold. Bookings for iPhone SE will start from March 24 in some countries while it will be made available in the month of April in India.
Display And Camera
iPhone SE has a 4-inch multi-touch retina display with a resolution of 1136 by 640‑pixel at 326 ppi (pixels per inch) which is same as that of iPhone 5S. The camera quality of iPhone SE is as good as of iPhone 6S. It has a 12-megapixel rear camera and includes a bigger sensor with 1.22-micron pixels and a f/2.2 aperture. This 4-inch smartphone can shoot and edit 4k videos and live photos. You can also record videos in Slo‑mo for 1080p at 120 fps (frames per second) and 720p at 240 fps. It also has a time‑lapse option and cinematic video stabilization (1080p and 720p). You can take 8-megapixel still photos while recording 4K video and can do 3x zoom. With features like auto image stabilization, improved local tone mapping, noise reduction, face detection and autofocus, iPhone SE’s camera makes photography much easier. You can also take panorama images for the large scenic views. The FaceTime HD camera can record 720p HD videos at 30 fps. It has a 1.2MP camera with face detection and auto HDR mode for photos. It also comes with Retina flash which is useful while taking selfies especially in low light or at night.
Performance
iPhone SE has a power-packed performance. It comes with a Apple A9 chip which delivers a spectacular speed and responsiveness. It has 2 times faster CPU performance than iPhone 5s. Also, it’s GPU performance is same as that of iPhone 6s which is 3 times faster than that of iPhone 5s, providing a rich and smoother gaming experience. The M9 motion coprocessor embedded directly into the A9 chip connects to the accelerometer, compass, and gyroscope, thus improving sensor dependent game experience significantly. Also, with the new iPhone SE, you can activate Siri simply by saying “Hey Siri” without having to pick up your iPhone, just like Google Now. This helps you use your phone without even touching it, which comes handy while driving. Like iPhone 5s, it has a fingerprint sensor built into the Home button which makes unlocking your iPhone SE simple and secure.
Battery
iPhone SE has a non-removable Li-Po 1642 mAh battery which can give you a battery backup up to 10 days in standby mode. Whereas, it gives a battery backup of up to 14 hours on 3G (talk time) and provides around 12-13 hours of internet use. We feel that battery could be improved, as even budget phones these days provide a battery with around 3000 mAh capacity. A power bank might come handy if you are planning to buy this phone.
iPhone SE: Other Features
With iPhone SE, you can use Apple Pay, enabling you to make transactions with your iPhone at different stores using Touch ID. Now, you can use Siri to listen and identify songs, get suggestions, fetch weather reports and much more but with all hands-free.
Hence, iPhone SE is a bold move played by apple, giving a powerful phone at cheaper rates as compared to that of other apple products. However, a small screen size (4-inches) and 1.2MP front camera may not fulfil your expectations. Apple should have kept the phone size at least 4.5 – 5 inches as of our opinion. Also, iPhone SE doesn’t have the 3D touch feature, which is justified for the price point the phone is being offered.
